At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled a major update to iOS that introduces powerful AI capabilities, signaling the company’s serious entry into the artificial intelligence race. The new features, branded “Apple Intelligence,” include smarter Siri interactions, on-device summarization, and AI-enhanced photo editing.
According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the update focuses on privacy-first AI processing, with most tasks being performed directly on the device. “We believe in AI that serves the user — not the other way around,” Cook said during the keynote.
The update also includes integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, allowing users to opt in to use the chatbot through Siri. Apple emphasized that ChatGPT usage will be clearly marked and require user permission.
Tech analysts have praised Apple’s cautious but innovative approach to AI, noting that the company is playing catch-up with Google and Microsoft. However, the emphasis on privacy could set Apple apart in the competitive landscape.
The AI features will roll out in beta later this year with the official iOS launch expected in the fall.
